MUS5630: Performance Practice: 1700 to the Present

This course will explore issues relevant to the historically informed performance of music written between 1700 and the present, including primary sources, original instruments and iconography, editions, treatises, phrasing and articulation, tempo and rubato, rhythmic alteration, ornamentation and cadenzas, and basso continuo. Class activities and assignments will include readings, discussion, and practicum.
Pre-requisite: Graduate student in Music or instructor consent
